  • Winning Blackjack for the Serious Player by Edwin Silberstang

They are all saying the same thing – YOU CAN WIN AT BLACKJACK. What do all these professional gamblers and authors know about the game that the ordinary players don’t. What is their secret to winning? Will they be able to learn and apply this knowledge and consequently profit from it?

The pro's secrets are BASIC STRATEGY and CARD-COUNTING and you too can learn and gain these skills with the use of our program - Blackjack Drillmaster .

But first what is "Basic Strategy" and "Card-Counting"?

Basic Strategy is the term applied to a system of play providing the highest betting yield without keeping track of the cards already played. It tells you the mathematically correct playing decisions that you should make to improve your chances of winning. Basic Strategy consist of the best percentage moves of drawing a card (hitting), standing, splitting or doubling down,  after you receive 2 cards and the dealer reveals his upcard. Strategy decisions are made by evaluating the player's first 2 cards versus the dealer's upcard. Cards held by other players on the table have no bearing on the Basic Strategy decision to be made.

Memorizing the Basic Strategy and executing it in actual play are the critical first steps toward learning to win at blackjack - it will be a giant step towards cutting your casino losses.

Card-Counting is a more advanced system of play wherein the player mentally keeps track of the cards as they are played and makes their betting and playing decisions accordingly. It relies on a very simple theory. There are times when there is a balance of cards good for both the player and the dealer dealt out and neither has the advantage. But sometimes more player-favorable cards are dealt out leaving more dealer-favorable cards in the deck, giving the dealer the advantage. Sometimes it's the other way around, more dealer-favorable cards are dealt out leaving more player-favorable cards in the deck, giving the player the advantage. If the player bets more when he has the advantage and less when the dealer holds the advantage, then the player will win more than the dealer in the long run. It is that simple. You are not required to memorize all the cards that had been dealt out. You just need to keep track of the balance of favorable and unfavorable cards. Card-Counting does not require great intellect, but it does require great dedication and discipline.

If using Basic Strategy and Card-counting is the best way to play blackjack, why isn't everybody using it?

First, it will involve some effort on your part to learn, memorize and make it second-nature. And then, the edge it affords you is relatively small. Also some players are content with just using their hunches/intuition/guess and relying purely on luck. They do not seek ways of increasing their chances of winning, thus, they are oblivious of the wealth of studies done on the subject of winning at blackjack. They play "for the fun of it." They believe that the losses they incurred at the table is the price they have to pay for the fun and action they receive. Is there really any fun in losing? No... not at all.

Most people let chance, hope and intuition guide their actions. Either they don’t know, don’t believe or don’t care that there is a right way to play every single hand

. …there have to be losers because if not there wouldn’t be casinos, but you and I don’t have to be among those ranks.
